Rain Didn't Stop Symmes: 1,193 Pounds Recycled
The Loveland Sustainability Council's August 2026 Symmes Recycling Event drew 192 participants and 22 volunteers - even in the rain. Together they recycled 1,193 lbs and saved an estimated 1,222 lbs of CO2.

Rain was in the forecast. Neighbors showed up anyway.
In August 2026, the Loveland Sustainability Council hosted the Symmes Recycling Event and 192 residents plus 22 volunteers proved that weather is no match for collective action.
The impact, in numbers
| Participants | 192 |
| Volunteers | 22 |
| Total recycled | 1,193 lbs |
| CO₂ savings | 1,222 lbs |
That’s more than half a ton of material kept in circulation and more than half a ton of carbon dioxide avoided because people chose to sort, bag, and drop off instead of toss.
What got a second life
Every pound was counted:
- PET: 374 lbs
- Other recyclables: 165 lbs
- PP (polypropylene): 164 lbs
- Store drop-off: 160 lbs
- Flex film: 130 lbs
- Rigid plastics: 83 lbs
- Styrofoam: 69 lbs
- Kroger package: 29 lbs
Thank you, Symmes & Loveland
To every resident who braved the rain: you turned small actions into real environmental impact. That’s #IamAnEcoPal.
To the 22 volunteers who kept the line moving in challenging weather-thank you. You made a real difference for this community and the planet.
Collective Action. Lasting Change. That’s not just a tagline. It’s what a rainy Saturday in Symmes looked like.
